We love getting your feedback!!

Yesterday, I bumped into Rabbi _______, who told me he planned his whole family Mid-Winter break around our Connecticut / Rhode Island Trip Report – and had a delightful time!

That’s what we do this for : ) …so, here’s the final installment of that vacation for your reading pleasure!

Part 4, continued from our Trip Report Parts 1,  2, & 3 – Click HERE to read those articles FIRST.

Leaving the cliff walk we wrote about in Part 3, we headed along Ocean Drive, which is supposed to be a scenic route with views…

After the cliff walk and the mansions, I’d say the drive was somewhat of a disappointment as a destination on its own.

We turned off at a sign for Fort Adams, an old restored military fort offering tours and historical presentations.

As it was late in the day, we missed the last tours,

so we didn’t’ pay to get in and weren’t able to explore the old tunnels under the fort, which definitely looked interesting, at least in the brochures, so…

..I guess we’ll just have to leave something to do for next time we come 🙂

So we headed to Thames St., a touristy district of Newport instead, where there are a lot of Piers, shops and more.

In the Summer season, this is where you can take all kinds of boat rides, boat rentals, fishing trips, whale watching and seal watching tours.

Continuing with your article...

Being freeeeeeezing out, we headed int a really nice little arcade place – indoors – called Ryan’s Family Amusements.

This was one of the better arcades we’ve visited,

and had a decent selection of games of skill, chance and more.

The pricing was reasonable, the clientele upscale, and  they even had an upstairs with air-hockey, which we enjoyed.

Although a family-operated arcade, they utilized the newer sophisticated card swipe system found in the better arcades, and had a decent selection of prizes for us to bring home to the kiddies.

We headed back to the hotel for Supper, and called it a night.

After Shacharis and breakfast the next morning, we passed by the famed Touro Shul – sold old it predates being called “Orthodox” as there was no “alternatives” at the time of its inception.

There is no minyan during the week here in the “off” season, and tours were only offered on Sundays so we just took a quick few pictures as we passed by on our way out of Newport.

On our way back home, we stopped at two unique places in Connecticut that we’ll tell you about.

The first somewhat defies description… a crazy place called:

Wild Bill’s Nostalgia, in Middletown, CT.

NOTE: after checking out this place, we do NOT consider it an appropriate destination for frum families to stop in, and our intention is to share our experience, not to reccomend you go here.

A quick drive by though, shouldn’t be problematic, if you want to take a break from the highways and use the local roads to see this strange, weird,  ‘what-was-anyone-thinking-when-they-made-this?’ type of place.

Cars stand on end on poles along the road…

a haunted house facade looks like it walked right off a movie set and is still in the process of settling down,

a giant clown skeleton stands with its arms permanently cemented in a car, whose tires have been covered in bricks???

While piles of boats are half-sunk vertically in a field and painted in psychedelic colors…

…and two adult tricycles share a front wheel in front of the bookstore, while a castle shaped stage shares the field as a horse keeps watch from the second floor balcony…

…and this tractor contraption robot with a propeller on its front waves goodbye.

Any armchair psychologists out there want to try and figure this guy out?

Again we reiterate: after checking out this place, we do NOT consider it an appropriate destination for frum families to stop in.

We left Wild Bill’s and headed to our second stop along the way – a MUCH more appropriate family destination: A gigantic, two floor electric plant, turned into:

Connecticut’s largest toy and hobby store!

Called the “Time Machine“, this tremendous place is every bit as exciting as it looks, and the packed interior can be a bit overwhelming!

It has a heavy focus on quality, build-it-yourself type toys, model kits and tends to shy away from toys that do everything for you.

Your kids will definitely enjoy this place,

but we’d suggest that you make a set of ground rules BEFORE you go in with them to ensure you leave without your wallet feeling like it was just attached to one hundred helium balloons (in other word, a lot lighter).

The back of the store features a gigantic model railroad all set up to go, and model trains run around the set on specified days of the month.

Model train enthusiasts can buy all of the parts and pieces to their hearts content in the most comprehensive shop we’ve ever seen of this type,

or you can just be a spectator and enjoy the details in this incredible setup.

The entire second floor is kind of dedicated to toys that adults have never grown out of, such as model planes, model helicopters and serious radio control vehicles. You can check it out but there was nothing there in our budget, so after choosing a few quality toys from the first floor, we thanked the owners and headed back on the road.

Think we’re done?
